Description
Act Up Theatre of Fargo-Moorhead will present an evening of entertainment December 29 to support needs of refugees coming to the Fargo-Moorhead area. Act Up’s 5th annual “Cabaret for a Cause” will be held at 7:00 pm at the TAK Music Venue in Dilworth. The theme for the evening is “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” -- a celebration of Elton John music, performed by former cast members and friends of Act Up -- to support Lutheran Immigration & Refugee Service (LIRS) and refugee families coming to the Fargo-Moorhead area.
For more than 75 years, the Fargo area has welcomed newcomers from all over the world in partnership with LIRS, which opened a field office in 2021 to continue the community-based services to resettle refugee families after the closure of Lutheran Social Services of ND. With thousands of Afghans arriving in the United States starting the summer of 2021, there has been a dramatic change in the number of refugees coming to the Fargo-Moorhead area. Funds raised at “Cabaret for a Cause – Can You Feel the LOVE Tonight” will support LIRS in providing refugees with a comprehensive set of services including cultural orientation, school enrollment, coordination of initial health appointments, referrals to ESL classes and employment preparation and placement. “We are very grateful to be partners with Act Up Theatre and The Great North Pole for Cabaret for a Cause.” says Dan Hannaher, LIRS Field Office Director. “There is a great need for assistance for the refugees coming to the Fargo area and this event really helps.” Also partnering with the event is The Great North Pole, a local organization which helps children and families in need in Cass and Clay counties.
