SCHEDULE:
- Week One: You will perform your audition cuts for, and be coached by Casting Director Alison Franck
- Week Two: You will perform your audition cuts for, and be coached by Casting Director Stephanie Klapper
- Week Three: You will perform your audition cuts for, and be coached by Casting Director Michael Cassara
Class will begin each week at 7pm and each student will work one-on-one with the instructor on cuts of audition songs or monologues in a classroom setting. Each class will also include a short Q&A, information on the intricacies of the casting process and insight on what the auditioner can do to stand out.
All classes will be held at Open Jar Studios, 1601 Broadway, 11th Floor
Under the direction of Artistic Director, Jeff Whiting, Open Jar’s Professional Class Series provides unique opportunities for performers to continue to hone their skills and work one-on-one with Broadway’s best stars, directors, composers, agents, and casting directors.
BIOS:
STEPHANIE KLAPPER is a New York based, award-winning casting director and the founder of Stephanie Klapper Casting, and independent casting group. Her work with SKC is frequently seen on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regionally, internationally, on television, film, and on many streaming platforms. She is a graduate of New York’s Music and Art High School (now known as LaGuardia HS) and SUNY College at Purchase. She is a frequent guest teacher and lecturer at many colleges and universities around the country, including New York University’s New Studio on Broadway, USC, and the Tepper Semester through Syracuse University, where she is a mentor to students interested in pursuing the casting profession. She is a mentor with NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts Women’s Mentorship Program, and Fordham High School for the Arts. Ms. Klapper is passionate about arts education and working with creative teams to develop new work and expand the scope of established work. In addition to casting and teaching, Ms. Klapper is a member of the Board of Casting Society Cares. She is dedicated to continuing to expand and champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in the business. Connecting creative, caring people to each other to make extraordinary things happen is amongst Stephanie’s greatest joys. She loves working with emerging artists to help them develop their careers.
MICHAEL CASSARA, CSA (Casting Director) and his team have cast over 500 theatre and film projects since the founding of Michael Cassara Casting in 2003. Recent credits: Mr. Holland’s Opus (BD Wong/Wayne Barker – upcoming), Punk Rock Girl! (Joe Iconis/Rob Rokicki – upcoming world premiere) An American In Paris (international tour, dir. Christopher Wheeldon), Spamilton: An American Parody (Off-Broadway/Chicago/Pittsburgh CLO/cast album/current tour), Forbidden Broadway (most recent three editions/cast albums), Enter Laughing (York Theatre), Gigantic (Vineyard Theatre, dir. Scott Schwartz), The 12 (Denver Center/world premiere), and regional productions at Gulfshore Playhouse (13 seasons), Ogunquit Playhouse, The Old Globe, Asolo Rep, Hangar Theatre, Argyle Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, The Denver Center, and dozens of other companies. From 2007 to 2019, Michael served as the resident casting director for the New York Musical Festival (NYMF), and he has proudly served in that position for the National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) since 2013.
