Description
Change, Not Charity: The Americans with Disabilities Act is a powerful PBS documentary that tells the emotional story of the decades-long grassroots movement that fought for equality, dignity, and accessibility, and ultimately led to the passage of the ADA in 1990. What we now take for granted—curb cuts, ramps, accessible entrances, and braille on elevator buttons—were once the focus of a national struggle that reached the steps of Congress.
Told through the voices of activists, advocates, and witnesses, the film brings to life the people who challenged lawmakers and transformed the lives of millions of Americans. Their courage, perseverance, and coalition-building helped shape one of the most important civil rights victories in U.S. history.
The screening will be followed by a post-screening Q&A with producer and CRS member Hilary Steinman, moderated by Cantor Stefano Iacono.
This program is free and open to the public.
