Description

Through her sound work, Los Angeles based artist Claire Rousay creates intimate sonic renderings of everyday life.

These soundscapes cast focus on the emotional, the transient and the incidental, using the familiar to create wholly unimagined worlds.

In her performances she calls on everyday elements; voice, touch, field recordings, conversations and other sonic curiosities, diving deep inside them to reveal unexpected correlations and counterpoints of the places and situations we think we know.

Joining Claire is Brisbane artist Madeleine Cocolas whose recent album Spectral uses a range of instrumentation to create deep, drifting masses of sound. Her expansive and rich harmonic textures stake out a critical territory at the very heart of contemporary electronic music.

Brisbane Powerhouse is Queensland’s home for contemporary culture, a magnificent power station of the 1920s reborn as an arts centre on the Brisbane River.

As Brisbane City Council’s premier arts venue, the much-loved building stages more than 1250 performances a year including a program of festivals, as well as hundreds of events and functions from weddings to conferences, all the while housing heritage-listed graffiti, riverside bars and restaurants, visual arts exhibitions and of course the stories of all who have ventured, laughed and shared memories within its living walls.
