Description
Next year marks the 250th anniversary of American independence. In the years leading up to the Revolution, people debated politics in taverns and coffeehouses—arguing about liberty, power, and the future of their country.
Inspired by those conversations, Pejepscot History Center invites the community to gather at local coffee shops to read short historical texts and discuss the ideas that shaped the founding of the United States.
Each session explores a big question that Americans wrestled with in the 18th century—and that we still debate today.
Session 1: What is liberty?
Session 2: Who gets to be free?
Session 3: How do we identify tyranny?
Session 4: When is the time for revolution?
PLEASE CHECK PHC WEBSITE FOR LOCATION! EACH SESSION WILL BE AT A DIFFERENT COFFEE SHOP.
