Collage Clinic with Denby Dale: Expand Your Process!
Collage Clinic is a focused, hands-on three-hour workshop for anyone looking to refresh their collage-making practice, solve creative sticking points, and build collage/assemblage work with more confidence and intention.
Bring a surface to work on (a substrate such as a panel, wood, etc.), along with a few personal materials or “starting points” that spark your interest—an image, photograph, paper, stamp, small object, color palette, or idea. A generous selection of additional collage materials and tools will be provided, including papers, ephemera, small metal accents, adhesives, and tools, including paper shape punches and decorative trimmers.
Through demonstrations and guided making time, we’ll explore ways to alter and transform materials, create interesting layers, and choose adhesives that suit the materials you are using. We’ll also discuss practical design principles—balance, repetition, proportion, contrast, and composition—to help you make clear choices as your piece develops.
Please bring:
Collage material or object that inspires you as a starting point for your piece
Surface (substrate) to build your piece on.
Optional: cutting mats, X-Acto knives, or other favorite tools.
Materials and tools supplied: Various papers, metal accents, wooden balsa strips and parts, ephemera, glues and adhesives for different materials, X-Acto knives, paper trimmers, cutting mats, paper punches, and more.
Come with materials you love, questions about your process, or simply a desire to experiment. You’ll leave with new techniques, useful resources, and a finished or in-progress collage or assemblage piece.
