About Michelle Candland

Community Volunteer, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Author, Speaker, Change Maker

Michelle became involved in the San Diego community when she moved from Salt Lake City Utah in 1998 as a Managing Director at CBRE, one of the largest international commercial real estate companies in the world.  Shortly after arriving she joined the San Diego Downtown Partnership along with the downtown San Diego Rotary club, the fourth largest in the world with over 400 members, which lead her to the Monarch School.

She began as a volunteer at Monarch and her first job was to find the school a new site.  The school’s need for financial assistance pushed her to become a founding board member of the Monarch School Project, a non-profit created to support the work of the Monarch School for homeless and at-risk children and she went on to become the President of that board for three years.  She was presented with the Art of Giving Award by the San Diego Magazine in 2004 along with being recognized by the Corporate Directors Forum as a Director of the Year for her work with Monarch.  In 2014 Michelle was recognized by Rotary International as a Woman of Action; one of 10 individuals from across the country.

Michelle served on the Rotary club board for many years and was elected President of her club in 2014-2015.  Michelle is a past President and past Board member of the San Diego Women’s Foundation as well as a current Board member of the National Conflict Resolution Center.  She is married to the love of her life and has a blended family comprised of six married children, 12 grandchildren and one great grandson. Michelle loves to travel, kayak, bike, wander in her garden and read.
