About the Class

During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, it is traditional to host iftar parties – where families gather and feast. There are always special dishes served only during Ramadan, often cooked by those who are not fasting to feed those who are. These secret recipes are passed down through generations.

Community Kitchen chef Nigora is donating her time for this special community lesson, where she invites you to come and join her feast. Ramadan is about bringing people together whether you fasting or not, and no matter your religion, it is a time of giving and sharing.

Nigora’s typical menu will include:

  • Uzbek chuchvara (similar to tortellini), served with a traditional clear broth.
  • Korean cabbage salad- Karamcha traditionally made by Koreans who immigrated to Uzbekistan
  • Armenian gata/ baklava

Your leader is keen home cook and baker Nigora, who grew up learning these dishes from her mother and grandmother in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She loves to share her joy for cooking with others, and particularly to bring Uzbek food to new people.
