In this workshop, you will discover the tactile art of handbuilding as you craft a custom matcha tea set from raw clay. Your instructor, Caroline will guide you step by step through traditional pinching and coiling techniques while you shape a classic matcha bowl (chawan) featuring a wide, smooth basin designed specifically for whisking tea to a rich froth. Complementing your bowl, you'll sculpt a matching whisk holder, a small, contoured stand that helps preserve the shape and longevity of your bamboo whisk. Throughout the session, you'll explore surface texturing, lip shaping, and custom underglaze selection, ultimately creating a unique, functional set to elevate your daily tea ritual.
No pottery experience is necessary. We'll guide you through every step, from shaping the clay to creating the dreamiest matcha set ever. After firing and glazing, you'll have a handcrafted piece that's as practical as it is beautiful, a timeless addition to your home or a thoughtful handmade gift.
You will be sculpting using your hands and a variety of tools to form the clay instead of a pottery wheel. Like all of our fired ceramics, your piece will be watertight and food safe.
What to expect:

2 hours of hands-on clay instruction
1 Complete Matcha set including whisk and scoop, ready for pickup within a few weeks.
No prior experience needed, just bring yourself! We provide all materials and tools. After the workshop, we’ll glaze and fire your piece and have it ready for pickup in approximately 3 weeks.
