Concordia Music Competition 

Location: Borland-Manske Center Charlie (Music)

            1530 Concordia West, Irvine, California, 92612 

Competition Date: Saturday & Sunday, January 28th & 29th, 2023 
    (We will assign a specific date and time to each participant after the application period is closed)

Application Deadline : Saturday December 31st, 2022  (Extended) 

Application Fee ( non- refundable) :  $70 for soloists

                                      $45 per ensemble member 

Categories

- Soloists: Piano, Harp, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double bass, Oboe, Bassoon, Flute, 
                                Clarinet, Horn, Trumpet, Tuba, Trombone, Saxophone, Percussion 

                     Voice (Classical and Musical Theater)  

- Chamber ensemble: Any chamber ensemble group, from duo to octet.

Division A : Age 10 & under 

Division B : Age 12 & under

Division C:  Age 15 & under

Division D: Age 18 & under 

Division E: Age 19 to 24 (College) 

Repertoire: Instruments : Free choice of one piece 

  •  Division A and B : 5 mins limit
  •  Division C, D, and E : 6 mins limit 

                    Voice:  - Classical : One Art Song and One Operatic Aria 

- Musical Theater : Two Musical Theater Pieces 

                    

Awards

  • First prize  : Trophy + $200 scholarship to CUI Summer Chamber Music Festival, 2023 . -(only for instrumentalists)

* For chamber ensembles, each member will receive a $200 scholarship for CUI Summer Chamber Music Camp, 2023 if they register for the camp as a group. (only for instrumentalists )

  • Second prize : Trophy + $100 scholarship to CUI Summer Chamber Music Festival, 2023. (only for instrumentalists )

* For chamber ensembles, each member will receive a $100 scholarship for CUI  Summer Chamber Music Camp, 2022 if they register for the camp as a group. (only for instrumentalists )

  • Third prize : Trophy 
  • Fourth prize : medal
  • Honorable mention: medal 

 

Complete Guidelines

  1. Age is determined by the date of the competition, January 28th, 2023.  
    The applicant has to submit a proof of age (a copy of driver’s license, birth certificate, etc.).
  2. Ensemble category participants are entered by the age of the oldest student as of January 28th, 2023.
  3. All participants must provide a copy of the score for the chosen piece to the judges at the time of the competition.
  4. Each participant has to provide his/her own accompanist that is not their private teacher.
  5. Participants may use the music.
  6. The judges’ decisions are final.
  7. All participants will receive the comments from judges.
  8. All participants beside the winners will receive a certificate of participation.
  9. All winners agree to allow their names, photographs and video files to be used in connection with the competition as publicity for Concordia Summer Chamber Music Camp.
