Description

Connecticut’s coastline is a dynamic area–changing daily with the tides, seasonally, and with major storm events like Tropical Storm Irene and Superstorm Sandy.  The impacts of climate change are affecting our shores through increased intensity and frequency of major storms, rising water temperatures, and rising sea levels.  These have impacts on the kinds of wildlife and plants which inhabit our shoreline and cause erosion of beaches, loss of tidal wetlands. and other changes.

The Ash Creek Conservation Association will present “Connecticut’s Changing Coast in the Era of Climate Change” with environmentalist Dr. Juliana Barrett of UConn/Sea Grant, Extension Educator Emerita at the Burroughs Community Center on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 6:30 p.m.

Barrett says the projection for sea level rise on the Connecticut coast is 20 inches by 2050.  She’ll discuss the impacts of climate change on the coastal ecosystems and different adaptation techniques that are proposed or in use to improve the resilience of these areas.

Seating is limited, so please register for this free event.  The public is welcome.
