Explore the powerful legacy of artist Ben Shahn, whose work boldly confronted the major social and political issues of his time, from the Great Depression to the Vietnam War. This exhibition features 175 artworks spanning the 1930s to 1960s, highlighting Shahn’s unwavering commitment to justice, freedom of expression, and human rights. Rooted in his credo of “nonconformity,” Shahn’s art addresses themes of unemployment, discrimination, and authoritarianism, while also drawing deeply from Jewish texts and spirituality. His later work reflects a meaningful connection to the Hebrew language and biblical stories, placing Jewish tradition in conversation with social justice.
CRS Outings is made possible by the generous support from Marcia and David Lavipour and Maxine Schweitzer.
No refunds will be issued within 14 days of the event start date. All requests must be made in writing to crs@crsnyc.org.
