Join us for “Paul Klee: Other Possible Worlds,” the first American museum exhibition to focus on the artist’s late work, created during the final and unsettling decade of his life before his death in 1940. With Hitler’s ascent to power, the National Socialists deemed Klee’s art subversive and degenerate, and dismissed him from his position at the Düsseldorf Academy, referring to him as “a Galician Jew.”
Forced into exile as an immigrant in his country of birth, the displaced artist abandoned his uplifting chromatic style of painting as he confronted the harsh terrain of fascism and, soon after, the effects of scleroderma, a fatal autoimmune disease diagnosed in 1935. By exploring Klee’s late work, this exhibition sheds light on a body of work that is not only less familiar to American audiences, but also less studied in academic circles in the U.S. than in Europe.
CRS Outings is made possible by generous support from Marcia and David Lavipour, and Maxine Schweitzer.
No refunds will be issued within 14 days of the event start date. All requests must be made in writing to crs@crsnyc.org.
