Leonora Carrington: Dream Weaver

In the Beitzel Gallery
July 13 - October 5, 2025

A pioneer of Surrealism, Leonora Carrington (1917-2011) conjures vivid, otherworldly landscapes populated with fantastical creatures inspired by folklore, mysticism, the occult, and her own dramatic autobiography. Spanning 50 years of Carrington’s career, this exhibition celebrates her creative and technical versatility with more than thirty rarely seen artworks, generously loaned from private collections. By turns illuminating and enigmatic, Carrington’s work explores the dream-like worlds of the unconscious, probing the intimate workings of the imagination in ways that still resonate today.

Leonora Carrington: Dream Weaver is organized by the Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, and is curated by Dr. Gannit Ankori, Henry and Lois Foster Director and Chief Curator, Rose Art Museum and Professor of Fine Arts and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Brandeis University.

Sublime Geometries: Selections from The William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation

In the Righter Gallery
July 13 - October 5, 2025

Drawn from the collection of The William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation, this exhibition presents a multi-generational group of women artists who are reinventing geometric abstraction in contemporary art:  Alison Hall (b. 1980), Hester Simpson (b. 1949), Dannielle Tegeder (b. 1971), Claudia Wieser (b. 1973), and Alison Wilding (b. 1948).  For these multimedia artists, geometry is both sensual and spiritual, representing the world pared down to its vital elements, so that the meeting of forms becomes a psychologically charged encounter.

Docent Tours Daily at 2:30 pm, included with admission.

Leonora Carrington’s Life in Pictures: Illustrations by Amanda Hall

In the Pollack Family Learning Center
July 13 - October 5, 2025

Visitors of all ages are invited into the world of artist Leonora Carrington. On view are original illustrations by Amanda Hall from the children’s book, Out of this World: The Surrealist Art of Leonora Carrington. Hands-on artmaking activities throughout the room explore surrealist and geometric abstractionist art forms inspired by the KMA’s main exhibitions.

About the Illustrator: Amanda Hall
Amanda Hall is a picture book artist, living in Cambridge, England. She illustrates her own texts and enjoys collaborating with other authors. Following their success with The Fantastic Jungles of Henri Rousseau, Hall and author Michelle Markel collaborated on Out of This World: The Surreal Art of Leonora Carrington. Amanda Hall loves creating worlds with vivid color and images on the page. She works mainly by hand, using a combination of paints, pencil, crayon, and digital techniques.

Hall's work has received wide recognition. Out of This World: The Surrealist Art of Leonora Carrington was named as one of Bank Street College’s Best Children’s Books of the Year 2020, and her art was exhibited at The Society of Illustrators “The Original Art” Annual Exhibition 2019.

Katonah Museum of Art

The Katonah Museum of Art is a non-collecting institution geared towards visual arts, located in Katonah, New York. The Museum presents changing exhibitions that cross a spectrum of artistic disciplines, cultures, and historical periods. Housed in an elegant building designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes, and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the Katonah Museum of Art originates three to four major exhibitions annually.

With each exhibition, artists, curators, and other specialists present art through programs, lectures, and workshops designed for visitors of all ages. The Pollack Family Learning Center uses a visual and interactive environment that encourages children and their parents to participate in hands-on projects. The Katonah Museum also offers outdoor concerts, evening cocktail parties, international travels, and trips to other museums and private collections. An outdoor Sculpture Garden, shaded by towering pines, displays contemporary works.

From the beginning, the KMA was committed to presenting exceptional art from all cultures and time periods. The founders’ decision to be a non-collecting institution resulted in a dynamic and flexible exhibition program, which remains one of the most distinctive features of the Museum. The KMA offers lectures, films, workshops, concerts and other events for a general audience; and presents innovative and substantive programs for nearly 100 member schools and community organizations. The Museum's outreach programs for the local Latino immigrant population are at the forefront of community-based education programs.

Its exhibitions, events, and educational programs invite everyone to experience and reflect on the impact and transformative power of the visual arts.
