Dave Sills

he Stars That Hang Above is the fifth studio record (and first to be released on vinyl) by singer-songwriter Dave Sills. The album’s roots go back two years to when the rhythm section of drummer Justin O’Connell and bassist Adam Gardner asked Sills if he’d like to do a gig with their project, The Tchotchkes. Sills jumped at the opportunity and also roped in his long-time lead guitarist Chris Walke. At their first rehearsal, Sills remembers looking around the room and thinking, “this just feels right. The chemistry between the four of us was obvious from the start.”

Recording of the album began in December of 2017, with the band squeezing in sessions where they could over the next 18 months. All songs began with all four members tracking together at O’Connell’s basement studio, with Gardner in the producer’s chair. Gardner would go on to mix the record at his home studio. Sills is proud that The Stars That Hang Above is his most collaborative effort yet, with six of the ten tracks being co-writes, five of those being with one or more members of the band. Sills says, “it may be my name on the cover, but this is really a band record."

Sills has opened for the likes of Peter Himmelman, Teddy Thompson, Glen Phillips (Toad The Wet Sprocket), Rusted Root, and many more. He has played all around Chicago-land at such places as SPACE, FitzGerald’s, Martyrs, The Old Town School of Folk Music, The Law Office Pub & Music Hall, and the WXRT main stage at The World’s Largest Block Party.

Alice Wallace

Here I Am, Nashvillian songstress Alice Wallace declares on her new album, releasing June 28, 2024, via Mule Kick Records.  It’s a title that hints at her deeply personal, confessional songwriting style, one that invites the listener to gaze at her beating heart as each intimate secret pours out, propelled by a powerful, expressive delivery that marks her as one of the true vocal talents of her generation.

Alice does not hide behind the microphone but uses it to amplify everything inside her champing to get out. She’s survived the highs and lows of life, love, and the music industry and finally produced the album she feels she was destined to make. Here I Am, she says, the real Alice Wallace.
