Description
The Brooks is proud to partner with Indie Memphis to host a double-feature of films on the closing weekend of Black American Portraits. Join us for Daughters of the Dust, a film by Julie Dash that looks at three generations of Gullah women as they prepare to embark on a new beginning. Stay for a panel discussion about the importance of this film, and a second feature, Barry Jenkins’ short film titled The Gaze. Shot as a standalone project while filming Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad, this unique film is a powerful collection of individual portraits captured as non-narrative vignettes.
Daughters of the Dust, running time 113 minutes
