67 Front StreetDAVID VEST
Singer, songwriter, piano pounder, storyteller. They don't make them as real as David Vest anymore. The son of an Alabama sharecropper, the longtime Victoria BC resident is still going strong 50 years after he first stepped on stage with the likes of Big Joe Turner. Long revered as one of the great boogie-woogie piano players, He is also a prolific songwriter who wrote the first songs ever recorded by Tammy Wynette, and his tunes have been covered by artists ranging from Paul deLay to the legendary Downchild Blues Band, whose cover of Vest's "Worried About The World" gave them their first number one song. But where he really excels is in his ability to bring the music to life by talking about the men and women who created the music, many of whom he knew personally, as well as his own incredible experiences. Come see why the Victoria Jazz Society calls him "a honky-tonk hero and a world-class entertainer."
