About Navigating Ambiguity
Navigating Ambiguity: A Guide for Designers Embracing Uncertainty is an essential guide that helps designers harness the discomfort of the unknown, transforming creative challenges into intentional design opportunities, inspired by Stanford University’s prestigious d.school. Navigating Ambiguity underscores the non-linear nature of creativity. It encourages designers to relinquish control and embrace adaptability, curiosity, and resourcefulness. Educators Andrea Small and Kelly Schmutte use humor and actionable insights to help you confront uncertainty in your design projects. They provide strategies for balancing action with adaptability, guiding you to navigate the complexities of design with confidence. The book includes striking cut-paper artwork illustrations by Reina Takahashi that inspire new perspectives on your creative process.
About Kevin Day
Kevin Day is the Impact Design Lab Teacher at the Mount Vernon School. His course invites eighth graders to learn and lean into design thinking as a stance of generous curiosity, empathy-fueled problem-finding and problem-solving, and a purpose-full path by which learners of any age might participate in designing a better world. He is leaning into his eighteenth year of classroom teaching this year; his vocational journey has also wound through cross country and track coaching and hospital chaplaincy. When the school day ends, he fights traffic to get home to Duluth, GA, where he and his wife (Katie) do their best to keep up with their beloved son (Elijah, 7). Kevin loves running, aspires to write more, and means to live authentically - and today - towards the intersection of design thinking, spiritual practice, and creative courage.
