Description
Detroit: A Childhood Nostalgia in Pigments II - Artist Jamar Lockhart’s 4th solo show exhibition unveils Part II of a personal and vivid collection of paintings that weave the tapestry of his Detroit upbringing. Each piece pulses with the spirit of the city – capturing the simplicity and nostalgic essence of growing up in Detroit in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Blending socially conscious fashion with iconic symbols like the Detroit Tigers Old English D hat, Jamar’s bold brushstrokes and vibrant palette capture the resilience and heart of a childhood shaped by Detroit’s unyielding landscape.
The space itself, a cherished multi-generational family-owned barbershop converted into a cafe, is a testament to endurance which mirrors the themes of perseverance and legacy in Jamar’s work. Detroit: A Childhood Nostalgia in Pigments II is a celebration of Detroit’s past shaping the future with an unyielding spirit, seen through the eyes of two of its own.
