Description

Join us for a special tour of Point of Honor as we celebrate the anniversary of a wedding that took place in the historic house 189 years ago.

On October 31, 1837, youngest daughter of Judge William Daniel, Sr., Elvira Daniel, married Charles Ellet, Jr., a prominent civil engineer hired to work on the James River & Kanawha Canal. After a brief engagement, the couple exchanged vows in the parlor of the family’s plantation home, where Elvira’s original wedding dress is now displayed.

Experience this bittersweet love story through a full house and grounds tour that includes the public and private spaces of Point of Honor, as well as the North Garden and external Hearth Kitchen. Through the perspective of the bride, the family, and the enslaved domestic staff, this tour will explore the preparatory and celebratory customs of the 1830s, and conclude with a special repast of wedding cake and tea.

This tour is limited to 15 guests. Tickets are $10 and reservations are required in advance.
