Description

During these times of uncertainty and turmoil, it's important to pause and remember to nourish our spiritual selves, which will only help renew our strength and ability to provide strength for others.

Join us for our annual Schwartz-Goldstein Lecture following a community Shabbat service and luncheon. The lecture will feature Rabbi Larry Hoffman, Ph.D., a preeminent scholar of Jewish liturgy and ritual, and a former teacher of some of our clergy here at Stephen Wise!  Rabbi Hoffman will discuss how daily Jewish experience, along with our texts and practices, can enable us to reach our full spiritual potential.

The Shabbat service will be available by livestream on our website, Facebook and YouTube.

This event is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Schwartz-Goldstein Lecture Fund, established 34 years ago in memory of Jack and Rose Schwartz and Samuel K. and Elizabeth L. Goldstein to add to the religious and spiritual life of our congregation through annual lectures.

About Rabbi Hoffman:

Rabbi Lawrence A. Hoffman was ordained as a rabbi in 1969, received his doctorate in 1973, and is now professor emeritus at the New York campus of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, where he served for almost half a century. Known internationally for his lectures to popular audiences and his spiritual approach to synagogue consultation, Rabbi Hoffman has written or edited 49 books to date, including "My People's Prayer Book," a 10-volume edition of the Siddur with modern commentaries which won the National Jewish Book Award in 2007. In 2009, he initiated (and still directs) the Tisch Fellowships, a program of cocurricular enrichment that commits select rabbinic and cantorial students to a vision of synagogue excellence.
