Description

More books, more space, more stories. Experience the Big Library this January!

Described by historian Eamon Duffy as “unquestionably the most important Catholic library in Britain", this is your chance to explore the magnificent space through self-guided discovery.

Ushaw’s Big Library contains over 50,000 books including unique early manuscripts and rare first editions. Books on open display in January will showcase some of the highlights from our literature collection, including works by JRR Tolkien, Lord Byron, Percy Shelley and the first English translation of Cervantes' Don Quixote.

To help make your visit even more enjoyable, we’ve introduced 30-minute pre-bookable time slots. This means no queues, just a relaxed opportunity to step inside one of Ushaw’s most atmospheric and inspiring spaces.
