Description

In spring 2024 a unique trial rewilding project was taking place at the Railway Land Nature Reserve in Lewes. Local people were gathering at a trial plot and harnessing their dogs with seed-filled backpacks to mimic the seed-dispersing role of extinct wolves. Organized by the Railway Land Wildlife Trust and funded by Ouse Valley Climate Action, the initiative aimed to restore biodiversity in a degraded area of the nature reserve and engage with local people who might not normally connect with the work of the Trust.

What followed next shocked everybody involved - a six week whirlwind of national and international press coverage that changed everything. In this fascinating and often amusing presentation, project lead Dylan Walker tells the story of the 'Walking in the footsteps of Wolves' project.

He also asks us all an important question: How can we initiate more community-led rewilding projects that increase biodiversity, foster cultural connections to nature, and encourage a shared responsibility for caring for our environment?. If you love seeds or dogs, or just listening to a good story, this talk is for you!
