Description

Join together for a special Earth Day Event that celebrates the ancient French Broad River and features a panel that explores ways to

prepare for storm water from heavy rains induced by climate change,
protect the French Broad River even as the river and region grow in popularity, and
prosper from water-based economic development.

Economic Impact of the French Broad River and Proposed List of Impaired Waters
Anne E. Keller, PhD, RiverLink and French Broad River Partnership

Recommendations of the Asheville Stormwater Task Force-- Our SW Ordinances and Budget
Marshall Taylor, PE Blue Earth

Innovative Approaches to Green Infrastructure
Jason Seickel, RLA Equinox Environmental

The Central Asheville Watershed Restoration Plan and Southside Project
Renee Fortner, MS RiverLink

This gathering shares findings of the Asheville Stormwater Task Force, alternative approaches to management of human impacts, expected designations of some nearby river segments as impaired, and recent information about the value of the river and our watershed provided by the French Broad River Partnership.

Our focus on this Earth Day is on a city, a region, and an ancient river that many have worked to protect and improve.  We continue to see population increases, rapid development and impacts of ongoing climate change. Unchecked, the result will be further degradation of the French Broad and reduced quality of life in the region. As our region grows in popularity, we must consider how not to love it to death!

Virtual attendees will receive a Zoom link via email prior to the event.
