101 Patrick StreetThis is a group discussion following the regular weekly sitting practice which takes place one Saturday each month. Our usual 2 hour meditation practice will be shorter to allow for the hour long discussion.
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, we resume our Dharma Dialogue series with Huang Po, a Chinese Chan (Zen) master of the Tang dynasty. He was a disciple of Baizhang Huaihai, and a teacher of Linji Yixuan—the founder of the Linji (Rinzai) school, one of the two great surviving Zen lineages, and the lineage from which our form of practice is derived. His teachings are simple, direct and immediate, and can cut through a preoccupied mind like a sharp knife through butter. He challenges his disciples to cease conceptual thought altogether in order understand Buddha Nature (i.e., The Absolute, The One Mind).
For September’s Dharma Dialogue, we will look at just one page of The Zen Teaching of Huang Po, in which he answers two questions from a student. This brief passage cuts to the core of his teaching, and gives us much to consider.

We will host the Dharma Dialogue this month on Saturday, September 27, following an hour of practice starting at 10am. Join us!
