Description
Join us for an open house with our Buddhist Dharma group, Eastern Sun Sangha. Experience our cozy meditation space, learn about our practices, and enjoy some tea and a potluck lunch. We hope to see our regulars, those who haven't joined us in a while, as well as some new faces.
In lieu of our regular Saturday 10am-12pm practice we will host a shorter meditation sitting with some basic instruction at the beginning followed by a short Dharma talk after practice.
This open house will also introduce our new monthly Sutra Study series which begins in June. This new series will generally be held on the last Saturday of the month following the regular zazen practice. We will have a short talk at the Open House with more information about the direction of the Sutra group study.
You may join the Open House at various times:
9:45am - If you will be participating in the meditation sitting from 10-11am, we ask that you arrive by 9:45am. We will provide some instruction and assistance with selecting your seating for meditation.
10:00am - Tea is served and practice begins promptly at 10am. The Jiki will lead a practice of sitting and walking meditation in the Rinzai Zen format with full bows. We will chant The Heart Sutra in both Japanese and English. Closing chant is The Eight Verses of Training the Mind. Candles and incense are used.
11:00am - If you are not participating in the meditation sitting you can join at 11:00am for the Dharma talk to introduce our Sutra Study series beginning next month.
12:00pm - You can arrive anytime throughout the talk portion between 11:00am-12:00pm. We will be serving tea/coffee and the potluck lunch around noon.
All are welcome to bring something to share for lunch but it's not necessary.
