Ecstatic Dance is an opportunity to connect with your body and community with free form expressive dance. We will be honoring the container of the space, which includes:
✨ limiting conversation on the dance floor, this keeps the energy flowing (there will be a designated space and time to chat)
✨ we invite you to explore the shoe-less experience of dancing barefoot on the Earth
✨this is a substance free event
✨no phones on the dance floor, be present
✨this is a judgement free dance journey, feel free to express yourself
Our featured artist for this dance is Melissa officinalis!
Melissa officinalis has been facilitating Ecstatic Dance since 2019. She has spent many years dancing at Ecstatic Dances around the world, and collaborating with dance communities hosting Ecstatic Dance Silent Discos around the country, including Ecstatic Dance OC in California, Ecstatic Dance Charleston in South Carolina, Exploring Within and at the Mauna Kea Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii, and her first festival debut at Dance Beyond Campout in the Berkshires. Melissa’s home base is in the Hudson Valley, as founder of Hudson Valley Silent Disco, facilitating regular Ecstatic Dance Silent Discos at Tweefontein Herb Farm in New Paltz, and monthly Ecstatic Dance at Assembly in Kingston with Hudson Valley Ecstatic Rhythms.
Weaving beats from around the world, her sets are a heart opening journey, closing with live sound healing instruments. Her name Melissa officinalis comes from the botanical name for the plant Lemon Balm, connecting to her passional for herbalism and the magic in dancing outside in nature.
