Historic Rock Ford's Untold Stories of the Revolution Series welcomes Noah Lewis as he presents "Edward 'Ned' Hector: Black Revolutionary War Hero & Black People in Washington's Army." During this first-person interactive presentation of Edward Hector, a black artillerist and teamster who participated in the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown, Noah Lewis will communicate the contribution African-Americans made to this country's freedom during the American Revolution.

About Noah Lewis: Noah Lewis resides in Upper Darby, PA and began the Edward Hector presentation in 1996. During this time, he had been doing genealogical research on his family. Although not related to, he learned about a Black soldier who fought in the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown and was held in such high regard by his community that they would name a street after in the mid 1850’s. He was amazed and fascinated by Ned Hector and many other Blacks people that he had not realized existed, who contributed to America gaining its freedom. His Ned Hector presentations have been the subject of many newspapers, articles, and interviews, and he has appeared at numerous historical sites, events, and schools.

This presentation will be held in the Langmuir Education Room located on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn.

Historic Rock Ford is comprised of the circa 1794 General Edward Hand Mansion and the John J. Snyder, Jr. Gallery of Early Lancaster County Decorative Arts. Our historic site is situated on 33 acres of gardens, woods and grounds surrounded by Lancaster County Central Park located in the southeast corner of Lancaster City.  This remarkable estate offers visitors the opportunity to encounter the outstanding original late-Georgian style architecture of the Hand Mansion, to experience its rooms furnished in exquisite period style while, in the Snyder Gallery, to explore a nationally recognized collection of Lancaster County decorative arts dating from circa 1760 to 1820 including furniture, portraiture, long rifles, tall case clocks, silver, and much more.
