Buncombe County Departments can build their own scarecrow and enter it to be set up and on display at Lake Julian Park. Scarecrows will be voted on at the Falloween Festival October 22nd! First place prize is a Golden Pumpkin, Second place will receive a Silver Pumpkin, and Third gets a Bronze Pumpkin! This will be separate from the public competition.
Themes can be silly, funny, spooky, festive, or classically agricultural! Scarecrows must be able to withstand weather and will be on display outdoors at the Park. Scarecrows will be reviewed by Buncombe County's Equity and Inclusion team upon submission into the contest to ensure themes are culturally appropriate, family friendly, and good hearted.
Sign up September 5th-October 7th! Scarecrows must be set up in the park in your allotted space between October 8th-14th. Scarecrows must be removed one week post Falloween or will be removed by park staff. Please call the park office for questions at 828-684-0376. Buncombe County Recreation Services is not responsible for any missing items or damage done to scarecrows while on display at Lake Julian Park.
