Description

Under the conservation easement of Sonoma County Ag + Open Space since 2002, the Keen property stands as a distinctive and visually enchanting conservation easement in the heart of Sonoma Valley. This unique landscape includes ancient lava flows, crafting natural walls, and ascents that showcase the beauty of native flora against the backdrop of the majestic Mayacamas Mountains. Recent rains have revitalized the creeks meandering through this scenic haven, home to the headwaters of Agua Caliente Creek. The aftermath of the October 2017 fires left a significant impact on this land. Now, as it undergoes a remarkable recovery, we invite you to witness the resilient spirit of nature, observe the effects of the fires on the terrain, and gain insights into interpreting fire-affected landscapes.

Designed for experienced hikers, the journey is rated as STRENUOUS difficult trekking on uneven, steep terrain with no established trails. We will navigate through brushy areas, with potential exposure to ticks or poison oak. Dress appropriately in long pants and sturdy footwear along with a hat and layers, and be sure to bring ample water. There is no bathroom or water available on-site at this property.

There is no fee for this outing, thanks to the support of Ag + Open Space and the Sonoma County voters who contribute to the district's efforts in preserving and maintaining these vital landscapes through a quarter-cent sales tax.

We are meeting at 175 1st Street West, Sonoma (Police Department).
