Description
About the workshop:
In this single session we will work on a needle-felted forest, building the rich greens of deep woods to offset bright autumn color and distinctive birch trees in the foreground. With all the right colors in your roving kit we will build the scene one step at a time, working through the layers from dense foliage to individual leaves.
- All tools and materials will be explained as we work, and all necessary supplies are provided.
- You will leave the workshop with your finished piece and supplies for more at home.
- A $30 materials fee is due in class to cover your kit, which includes a collection of dyed wool roving, felting needles, acrylic felt pinned to a foam block and printed materials outlining tools, fibers and resources.

Additional tools and full-spectrum work lights will also be available to provide professional studio conditions.
About the instructor: Jaana Mattson is a full-time professional artist who loves to make art and loves to teach. Over the years she has developed an innovative approach to needle felting to create impressionistic and often photo-realistic landscapes from wool fiber that capture the vibrancy and nuance of landscape. In 2020 her award-winning work and tutorials were published in the book "Jaana Mattson's Landscapes in Wool: The Art of Needle Felting”. After a lifetime of appreciating the midwestern landscapes, in 2020 Jaana Mattson moved her home and studio from Minneapolis, MN to the peaceful Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Asheville, NC.
