Description

Join guide Carey Rowsom on a birding tour of the farm during the fall migration. Carey is a lifelong Marylander who has always been awed by the natural world, even growing up in a row house in Baltimore. She fell hard for birds when she started over 30 years ago as an aviculture volunteer at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and never looked back. Carey’s path (and retirement) brought her and her husband to Annapolis, where she feels very lucky to share the simple joy of walking the trails on Hollywood Farm, while listening and looking for feathered neighbors as they go about their very busy and challenging lives.  Carey believes there is always something new to learn about the birds around us, and she is truly happy to help beginners with some tools and hints to get their birding odyssey off to a fun start!

Meet at the main entrance to Hollywood Farm at 1701 Pleasant Plains Road, Annapolis. Directions provided upon sign-up. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs please. Walks take place rain or shine.

Hollywood Farm

Hollywood Farm is a 125-acre fourth-generation family farm in the Broadneck peninsula of Annapolis, Maryland.

Our family specializes in raising grass-fed Katahdin sheep on over 60 acres of pasture, selling lamb online, at the Anne Arundel County Farmer's Market, and to local restaurants. We try to practice farming in a way that respects our animals, our land, and our history in this area. In 2023, we completed a decade-long transition from turf farming to regenerative pasture-based farming. Our peaceful fields and 55 acres of woods and wetlands sustain a diversity of flora and fauna, providing an important buffer for waters leading to the Chesapeake Bay. We host the Grow Annapolis and La Finca community gardens, which together provide over 70 families with garden plots on which to grow their own food, and monthly harvest donations to local food pantries. Hollywood Farm is also host to a talented group of bees managed by our award-winning beekeeper, with hives producing beautiful, golden wildflower honey — and a small flock of chickens and ducks laying pretty varicolored GMO-free eggs. We love to host farm tours and special events. Please see our farm's website -- hollywoodfarm.com -- for more details.
