Fantasy Creatures from Dinosaurs

Want to learn how to draw more interesting monsters and fantasy animals? Start by reconstructing extinct animals by reading their bones (and the latest scientific literature)!

 

In Fantasy Creatures from Dinosaurs, we will learn how to think about these creatures and draw them by doing a number of small exercises, from building and designing a creature all of your own, to showing your take on speculative evolution and dinosaurs!

 

This is a great starter class for anyone who was ever wanted to draw fantasy creatures for their comics or RPGs. All materials are provided. This class is recommended for students ages 14 and up. 

 

Jasper Hathaway (they/them) is a cryptid who was raised by artists and hippies traveling cross country to various Renaissance festivals, where creature design was literally our bread and butter. They graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design with a heavy focus on creature design and concept art in 2011 and has been painting weirdo animals ever since. Clients include everything from people who want paintings to corporations. IPs they have worked on include but are not limited to Power Rangers, Transformers, GI Joe, Zuma, Vampire: The Masquerade and many many indie projects. They currently are focusing on their own spec evo ttrpg, and reconstructing Permian animals with a special focus on Gorgonopsians. They love paleontology, and can be seen volunteering in the fossil lab at the Burke museum most weeks.
