The Cape Fear Bonsai Society, established in 2001, is a group that meets monthly to study and practice the art of Bonsai.
The club has an active program of training through workshops, guest speakers, and a sharing of Bonsai expertise. Membership is open to both the novice and the more experienced practitioner of Bonsai.

Featured Bonsai Display Calendar
One of the great traditions of bonsai exhibition is the tokonoma—a thoughtfully composed display that presents a bonsai with complementary elements to express season, balance, and feeling.
Inspired by this tradition, the Cape Fear Bonsai Society features one member bonsai display at each monthly program.
This calendar is where CFBS members can volunteer to create the Featured Bonsai Display for an upcoming program. Choose an available date, and you'll be the featured exhibitor for that program.
Create Your Display
Your display begins with one of your bonsai. From there, the presentation is yours.
It may be as simple as a bonsai with an accent plant, or you may choose to include a stand, scroll, viewing stone, seasonal element, or other complementary pieces.
The goal isn't perfection. It's an opportunity to share one of your trees, explore the art of bonsai display, develop your presentation skills, and inspire conversation among fellow members.
Members of all experience levels are encouraged to participate.
Don't Have Everything You Need?
Don't let that stop you.
CFBS has display materials available, including our Japanese screen and black display cloth, and members are often happy to loan stands, accent plants, scrolls, viewing stones, or other pieces.
If you'd like some help developing your display, just ask. Creating it is part of the experience.
What to Expect
As the featured exhibitor, you'll bring your bonsai and display elements to the program and set up your display before the program begins.
Your display will remain in place throughout the program for members to enjoy, discuss, and learn from, and you'll take your tree and display materials home afterward.
