Plant Purchases: Participants purchase selected trees directly from Phillip’s Nursery (cash, check, or credit card accepted). There is no limit on the number of trees you may purchase.
What to Expect
We will focus on shrubs and small trees in #1 and #3 container sizes, ideal for early bonsai development.
Typical pricing ranges:
• #1 containers: approximately $15–$30
• #3 containers: approximately $35–$75
Prices and availability vary by season and inventory.
Why Nursery Selection Matters
Creating bonsai begins long before styling. Learning to evaluate trunk movement, taper, nebari (root flare), branch placement, and overall health helps avoid common beginner mistakes and sets realistic expectations.
Trees selected during this session are chosen for long-term development, not immediate transformation.
What We’ll Do
• Evaluate nursery trees for bonsai potential
• Discuss species considerations and seasonal timing
• Explore long-term possibilities rather than immediate results
This session emphasizes observation, decision-making, and understanding what makes a tree worth investing time and care into.
