Description

Elevate your vocal performances to new heights with voice teacher Heidi Muendel and pianist Bonita Wiens. This masterclass is for singers age 12 and up at any level to prepare for their upcoming performances at the Kamloops Festival for the Performing Arts. Each singer will get 15 minutes of dedicated instructional time with Heidi and Bonita, focusing on presentation, staging, and technical elements, for a more effective performance.

Heidi Muendel, Voice

Heidi Muendel (MMus), Dramatic Soprano has a Masters Degree in Music, is a trained opera singer, voice teacher and performer for over 25 years, and dynamic workshop leader. Heidi has recently moved from Germany back to her hometown, and looks forward to creating a safe and playful space to discover your unique voice.

Heidi works with singers of all genres with careful focus on vocal freedom, technique, performance quality, and vocal health. Her approach includes an honouring of the ‘whole’ singer, and is most effective for singers available to: change, discovering their own authenticity, and a bit of silliness.

Heidi has traveled and performed in Canada, United States, Germany, Austria, and Italy. She is the founder of the Life-Sound Studio, Frankfurt where she taught: private voice lessons, singing workshops and ‘Mini Musik’. She was team and workshop leader at the LIGHTHOUSE in Wiesbaden, and is currently providing an annual summer Festival of Singing in Germany, teaching locally in person, and internationally online

Bonita Wiens, Pianist

Bonita was born and raised in Kamloops. Piano lessons were a part of her life beginning at the age of 5 and continuing until achieving her ARCT. At the age of 14 she began her teaching career with the kids she babysat. Teaching piano became a way of life until retirement in 2022.

Accompanying began at age 14 as well, beginning with the choir at the Alliance Church. This grew to involve many soloists and musical groups including Kamloops Children’s Choir, Kamloops Players Theatre, Classic Blend and Kamloops Symphony Orchestra.

While teaching has been left behind, Bonita continues to enjoy accompanying. A highlight for her is learning new music, working with wonderful people, and being a part of their musical journey.

Kamloops Symphony Society

Operating since 1976, the Kamloops Symphony is a fully professional orchestra with an annual operating budget of over $1 million, a significant achievement for an orchestral music organization in a region of just over 100,000 residents.

The primary purpose of the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra (KSO) is to engage and enrich the citizens of Kamloops and the Thompson Valley Region of Interior British Columbia through music. Considered a cornerstone of the cultural fabric of Kamloops, the Symphony’s primary activity is the presentation of high quality professional orchestral concerts. Historically, this has been accomplished through the presentation of nine to ten annual programs, and up to eighteen performances in Kamloops and the neighbouring city of Salmon Arm.

An important part of the Symphony’s mandate is to provide educational opportunities for the citizens of Kamloops. The Symphony also presents concerts for school children, and educational presentations in public and private district schools. Since 2002, the Kamloops Symphony Music School, a division under the Kamloops Symphony, has provided opportunities for music education to citizens of the region, and given further employment opportunities to local musicians. The school has extended our community connections and helped attract professional musicians to live and work in Kamloops.
