FFA: FREE FOR ALL | Music, Art, Open Mic, Poetry Slam, DJ, MC
We are thrilled to invite you to a unique cultural extravaganza – FFA: FREE FOR ALL. This event is a vibrant blend of music, art, open mic, poetry slam, DJ, MC, and much more. Join us for a night of unforgettable performances at the iconic Gordon Best Theatre in Peterborough, Ontario.
Like a maple leaf in a gust above the prairies, Taylor Abrahamse floats blissfully between the borders of song, gender & genre with his deftly crafted, hook-laden hammerclaw pop. A Paul Simon/Jim Carrey crossbreed & Kerrville Newfolk Winner, he’ll leave you laughing, inspired, and even singing along - if you can reach that high.
Taylor is also a Canadian Idol & Mariposa showcase finalist, sought-after voice actor, and collaborator with emerging & platinum-selling talent for music in feature films & TV. Out of love for Taylor’s songwriting, Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, etc), insisted on co-producing his acclaimed debut album.
Kevin T Gallagher
Kevin T Gallagher (@theartofspypoet) is the director of the Peterborough Arts Collective (Ontario Canada), and the Community Outreach Guru for The Jason Wilkins Factory.
He pours ink into poetry through the conduit of a pen, raw emotion translated into a flow of words. With visual art, he enters a meditative state where he infuses confident line work and bright colors with raw emotion. When he takes to a dance floor, he moves with all the grace and majesty of a winged bison.
Through 30 years of writing a poetry, making art, and performing, Mr Gallagher has converted his inner chaos and refined his emotional blindness into an undeniably unique and personal artistic style. In this, Mr Gallagher is not just an emerging artist. He is a continually evolving, emerging and malleable spirit, who uses life's nuances and changes to help drive his arts into new and exciting directions. He embraces and explores his autism through this highly stylized pursuit of all things creative.
Music Open Mic
We are looking for 2 folks to fill out the musical portion of the evening. Signing-up for an Open Mic ticket means you have the stage for about 15 minutes!
1-2-3 Poetry Slam
The winner gets $50 and the runner-up gets $25! If you're not sure what a 1-2-3 Poetry Slam is, it's when poets compete in three rounds. The first round is a 1-minute poem. The second round is a 2-minute poem. Once the scores are tallied, the top 2 poets will face off in a head-to-head 3-minute round and the audience will decide a winner.
Normal Poetry Slam rules apply:
- No props
- No music
- No nudity
- 10 second grace period, then time limit penalties
- Time starts when you engage the audience
