37 Library StreetThis event brought to us by Trillium Arts is centered around Tiny Movements, an award winning short documentary film about a survivor of drug-induced domestic sexual assault and her journey to heal through dance. The 25-minute film directed by Laura Sweeney tells the story of Asheville, NC native Jenn Green’s progression as she navigates the ongoing legal battle to protect herself and her children, the journey to hold her abuser accountable within the legal justice system and moving forward as she works to rebuild her chosen life.
Once in a safe space, Green began a daily practice of dancing in her kitchen, calling upon her years of movement training. Green filmed her daily practice for three years and created an Instagram account, "Tiny Kitchen Dances" where she posted her daily dances, an offering to herself and a sharing of her path with others. It became her daily meditation, a reflection, and a dedication, her own chosen way to process the aftermath of the abuse, and what she would choose as she moved forward.
Tiny Movements has been screened at numerous national film festivals and won several awards, including Best Short Documentary at the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival and Winner of the Ruth Landfield Award at the Fargo Film Festival.
