Description
Description: In this workshop, participants will learn from experienced rope practitioners a variety of ways to tie fingers and toes, including how to scale the intensity of the tie from comfortable to evil. The workshop will include demonstrations, step-by-step instruction, hands-on tying, and opportunities for individual feedback. The class will address risks and safety issues, including risk mitigation for nerves and joints. Class will cover both specific techniques and general principles for tying fingers as well as tying toes, and will offer multiple methods and variations. In addition to covering ties in which the fingers or toes are the exclusive focus, participants will learn ways to incorporate fingers or toes into larger structures/harnesses/ties, as well as examples of using finger/toe ties as part of larger rope scenes, including predicaments.
Skill/Experience Level: An intro rope class (such as Parker's Beginner Rope Intensive workshop or an equivalent workshop) is very helpful as background for this class. Tying participants should solidly know a square knot, half hitch, munter hitch (aka nodome), and slipped half hitch (aka Yuki fix). Participants being tied should have some experience being in rope, body awareness, and an ability to communicate in rope.
Partnering: Attend this workshop solo or with a partner. Participation in any parts of the workshop is entirely optional and should be done only with full, ongoing consent. Some hands-on (finger-tying) parts of the workshop are most effective with a partner. If you attend solo, you are welcome to try to partner up with another solo participant at the start of the workshop. Solo participants also are welcome to self-tie to the extent possible and/or to observe.
What to Bring: We recommend bringing 2 lengths of rope (usually ~25-35 ft. long each, and perhaps including one shorter length of rope that's ~10-15 ft.). Some materials will also be provided to participants in the class.
