Join us as Sarah Rowe, creator of POST, engages in an intimate fireside chat with Peter Fankhauser, Co-Director of Amplify Arts.

This conversation will be centered around the healing power that play and humor provide to each of us and how those elements of self-reflection are present in the work Rowe created that is currently at KANEKO.

"...humor and play help form connections across different backgrounds and perspectives, creating a more inviting world. Art creates a space of collective healing and I share that space through collaborations with arts organizations, schools, shelters, rehabilitation centers, and non-profits across the country. Storytelling and processes based on play and experimentation are key to developing engaging work and dynamic conversation."

-Sarah Rowe

Sarah Rowe is a multimedia artist based in Omaha, NE. Her work opens cross cultural dialogues by utilizing methods of painting, casting, fiber arts, performance, and Native American ceremony in unconventional ways. Rowe’s work is participatory, a call to action, and re-imagines traditional Native American symbology to fit the narrative of today’s global landscape. Drawing from skewed imagery in historic texts, in conjunction with images from Lakota winter counts, Rowe projects her vision of contemporary Indigenous experience into the mix with an offbeat enchantment. Rowe's imagined landscapes are bold and vibrant, containing a shape-shifting bestiary of tales both familiar and strange. Rowe holds a BA in Studio Art from Webster University, studying in St. Louis, MO, and Vienna, Austria. She is of Lakota and Ponca descent.
Peter Fankhauser is an artist and educator who believes in wild futures and the worldbuilding potential of cross-disciplinary creative practice. He thinks of his research at the intersection of queerness, visual culture, and dark ecology as an embodied theoretical framework toward more just modalities of coexistence. Before joining the Amplify Arts team, he held posts at Hauser Wirth & Schimmel in Los Angeles, the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, and The City University of New York, where he also received an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studio Practice. In addition to working as Co-Director, Programs at Amplify Arts, Peter teaches courses in Photography and Visual Literacy at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

This engaging conversation will take place at KANEKO, inside POST, the latest exhibition by Sarah Rowe.
