Join Indiana’s Project WILD and Project Learning Tree programs for an immersive learning experience set against the stunning backdrop of Indiana Dunes National Park during Indiana Dunes Birding Festival weekend, a peak time for spring bird migration. This major migration weekend offers a unique opportunity to observe and learn about Indiana’s amazing birds as they move through one of the most biologically diverse areas in the state.
Together, we’ll explore Indiana’s birds, the unique habitats they depend on—from dunes and wetlands to forests and shorelines—and practical ways to bring these real-world connections into your classroom. All participants will receive Flying WILD from Project WILD and Together for Birds from Project Learning Tree, along with additional resources to help you and your students investigate birds, their habitats, and birding in Indiana.
Participating educators will deepen their understanding of Indiana’s bird diversity, engage in hands-on educational activities, and connect with place-based resources that make learning come alive for elementary and middle school students.
The workshop will include time outdoors, interactive activities, and a few short hikes to observe birds and habitats firsthand. Please dress for the weather, wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring a water bottle. We recommend that you bring binoculars if you have them, but will be able to provide some to share for those without.
Support for this professional development opportunity is provide in part from National Park Foundation program grant funds.
