The Silverado-Modjeska Recreation and Park District (SMRPD) is a local government special district established by the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 1961. Its purpose is to provide a well-rounded, wholesome program of recreation and leisure time activities for residents of the County's canyon areas, which includes Silverado, Ladd, Black Star, Williams and Modjeska canyons.
Description
Learn how the "Flood Fight Methods Course" is designed to assist government agencies and NGOs in the implementation of corrective temporary methods utilized while combating flood related problems. The course covers flood behavior, terminology, patroling, flood related problems, and safety. Practical exercise will include sandbag filling and passing, boil sack ring construction, diversion wall construction, structure protection, raincoat method, and wavewash/erosion.
With the incoming Super El Nino, learn these techniques so we are ready to assist where needed!
This class is half physical and has a field portion component. Work gloves & Eye Pro will be provided but if you have your own comfy set, please bring them along. Being a Community Outreach event, mileage nor any expenses will be reimbursed.
We will primarily teach CERT and Silverado Canyon residents, but we definitely encourage Greyshirts to attend and build their skill sets.
