Description
Mountain River Flower Patch is a small, family-run, pick-your-own flower patch in Mountain River, Tasmania, open seasonally from January to April. Set on our home property with a beautiful mountain backdrop, the patch is designed as a slow, peaceful place to wander the rows, reconnect with nature and pick your own bouquet of seasonal flowers to take home. We grow a variety of cut flowers chosen for their beauty and vase life – including dahlias, roses, peonies, sunflowers, cosmos, zinnias, carnations and sweet peas – using no-till methods, compost, no chemicals and a strong focus on healthy soil and biodiversity.
You can either join a public flower picking session or book a private session for birthdays, bridal showers, anniversaries and other special occasions. Each session is three hours long and includes a picking demonstration, access to the patch, and the use of a vase and clippers for picking guests. Public sessions offer three ticket types: a Pick Pass (picking guests 16+), a Wander Pass (non-picking guests 16+) and free Kids Passes (under 16, accompanied by an adult). Private sessions also require a minimum of five picking guests and allow you to bring your own picnic, photographer and decorations for a relaxed, private celebration among the flowers.
Children and families are very welcome, though dogs are not permitted. Parts of the patch are suitable for prams and wheelchairs, though some areas are softer and sloping. There are toilets on site and limited parking, so car-pooling is appreciated. As this is a working flower patch, there are many bees around; guests with allergies should take care, and we keep an epi-pen on site. All visits are pre-booked only, no walk-ins, and sessions will generally go ahead unless there is heavy rain. If we need to cancel due to weather, you’ll be offered a refund or reschedule, and public session tickets can be transferred to a friend or refunded/rescheduled with at least 48 hours’ notice.
