Description

Join us for a special evening at the observatory as we explore one of the most mesmerizing celestial events—a lunar eclipse! This Focus Night will feature an engaging presentation about the upcoming eclipse, including what causes it, what to look for, and how to view it safely and enjoyably.

Please note: The actual lunar eclipse will take place several hours later, in the early morning hours, so this event is designed to prepare and excite you for what you'll see later that night. While we won’t observe the eclipse live during the program, you’ll leave with everything you need to appreciate it when it happens.

Our knowledgeable docents will guide you through the science of eclipses, share tips for viewing, and offer telescope views of other celestial objects visible that evening.

What to Expect:

• A focused presentation on the upcoming lunar eclipse

• Tips for viewing the eclipse in the early morning

• Telescope viewing of planets, stars, and deep-sky objects

• Night-sky tours and Q&A with observatory docents

Tips for a Great Night:

Dress warmly, bring a red flashlight if you have one, and come with your eclipse questions!

Don’t miss this chance to deepen your understanding of this celestial event before witnessing it for yourself.

The program starts promptly at 7:00 PM. Please allow ample time for driving and parking. Sales are limited to 40 guests so we can provide a more personal experience. You'll have plenty of time at the telescope eyepieces, and as always, the observatory will be staffed by knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers eager to show you the night sights, and answer any questions you may have.

$50.00 per adult, $45.00 for seniors (62+) and students, and $40 for members. Cost includes the Sugarloaf Ridge State Park parking fee.

You MUST have a ticket to attend this event.  Attendance is limited. Please note that tickets are non-refundable and cannot be used for future events.

RFO is operated by the Valley of the Moon Observatory Association, a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization, and all of the proceeds will go towards maintaining this beloved Sonoma county institution.
