Description
Holding space for the human experience from depression, trauma, loss is powerful with experiential therapies. Sand tray is a deeply emotional method of therapy allowing containment, externalization, and expression across the lifespan in a manner beyond words. This workshop is an introduction to sand tray across the lifespan. The foundations of sand tray from creating sand tray space, finding essential supplies and miniature selection. Decision making about directive and nondirective approaches will be discussed. Seminal theories will be discussed in terms of how theories guide the process. This workshop allows for introduction to core concepts as well as experiential learning. This workshop is an introduction to sand therapy in therapy with people across the lifespan. We will discuss basics from creating a sand tray space and selection of miniatures and placement. Seminal theories will be discussed in terms of how approaches guide the sand tray process. Core concepts and themes will be explored.
Learning objectives:
After this workshop, participants will be able to:
Describe sand tray as a therapeutic tool
List at least two seminal theories and briefly describe how sand tray is used within this theory
List sand tray categories of miniatures for sand tray play therapy.
Describe the benefits of directive and nondirective methods within the sand tray. (To prompt of not to prompt, that is the question.)
List five prompts and decision making about their use
Describe basic neuroscience supporting sand tray for emotional healing
