Capella Regalis presents Haydn's great masterpiece, Missa in angustiis ("Mass for troubled times"), in a performance bringing together top professional singers and instrumentalists in Halifax, the young choristers of Capella Regalis Boys and Girls Choirs, and four vocal soloists from across Canada.

Written by Austrian composer Joseph Haydn in 1798 in a time of political and financial instability in Europe caused by the Napoleonic Wars, this masterwork resonates across the centuries, with parallels to political, economic, and social uncertainties in our time. The concert program also features works for Remembrancetide by Tomás Luis de Victoria and Arvo Pärt.

The annual "For All the City" free masterwork concert builds upon Capella Regalis's mission to break down barriers to high-quality music for people of all ages and brings the community together in meaningful tribute to those who have lost their lives in service and all who have gone before.

PLEASE NOTE: Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. On concert day, the doors open at 3 pm, and the concert begins at 4 pm. Please arrive early to ensure desired seating. All seat reservations must be checked in by 3:45 pm. Any reservations not claimed by 3:45 pm will be given to attendees next in line at the door.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE: While we normally have Patron, Priority, and General seating sections for our ticketed concerts, this free concert will have only General (Nave/Transept or Great Choir) un-assigned seating, with the exception of assigned seats for our Season Sponsors, For All the City project-specific sponsors, and public dignitaries. Thank you for your understanding!

Capella Regalis is a Canadian charity dedicated to training singers within a centuries-old choral tradition and performing choral music of the highest excellence. Founded in Nova Scotia by director Nick Halley in 2010 to build upon the best aspects of the European tradition of church choirs and to revitalize this method of music training in Canada, Capella Regalis now comprises a Boys Choir, Girls Choir, and professional Men's Choir based in Halifax. In November 2024, Capella Regalis launched its South Shore Program, which provides weekly singing rehearsals in Lunenburg for children from Nova Scotia’s South Shore communities. All Capella Regalis children's choirs are free and open to any child who is keen to learn music.

Capella Regalis Choirs regularly sing Choral Evensong in the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Halifax, as part of the Cathedral's Sundays at Four series. The choirs also perform concerts around Nova Scotia and beyond in a busy September–June season, including the ground-breaking annual, free masterwork collaboration, For All the City, the popular annual Christmas series, A Chorister’s Christmas, and annual tour programs of sacred and secular repertoire ranging from Gregorian Chant to works by living composers. Capella Regalis projects include top-notch musicians from around the world, and the choirs engage the public in unique music outreach initiatives. Capella Regalis has released five CDs, most recently Songs of the Sea (June 2025), as well as many online performance broadcasts. To see and hear audio and video recordings, find upcoming events, and discover more about the programming and philosophy of Capella Regalis, we invite you to visit capellaregalis.com.
