Join Aedan Madden and BYO instrument for a workshop in free improvisation focused on active listening and collective interaction. With emphases on embracing fear as a factor in improvisation & the creative process, shaping your own sound and taking part in a process that brings us together to collectively create and learn from each other.

*Open to all instruments, vocalists & skill levels.*

Aedan Madden is a saxophonist and educator based in Western Massachusetts and has been performing professionally around New England for over 5 years. He graduated in 2023 from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz and African American Music Studies. While at UMass he had the privilege of performing as a member of Jazz Ensemble 1 under the instruction of Jeffrey Holmes, performing with artists such as Delfeayo Marsalis and Sean Jones. He has studied with notable saxophonists Ted Levine, Felipe Salles, and Edward Orgill and has studied composition and arranging with Jeffrey Holmes, Catherine Jensen-Hole, and James Argiro. Aedan has a variety of performance experience ranging from big band, jazz combos, funk, fusion, to avant-garde and classical. He has performed as a member of the Berkshire Big Band and frequently gigs as a member of the JTC Quintet. He also leads his own group; the Aedan Madden Quartet. Aedan has taught a wide variety of students ranging in age from 6 to 50 and is currently working as a teaching artist and assistant instructor in songwriting with OpporTUNEity Music Connections, teaching songwriting workshops at Worcester County Jail and House of Corrections. He has led music workshops at summer programs and offers private lessons in saxophone, clarinet, and improvisation.
 

The Parlor Room Nonprofit and School of Music's mission is to: Promote a vibrant musical community in downtown Northampton, MA for musicians of all abilities and at all stages of their career. The Parlor Room will bring nationally touring and local acts to our listening room to provide an exceptional experience for the artist and audience and guide musicians and anyone interested in a career in the music industry through our school of music.
