Part of Vienna’s deep musical heritage, these revered composers helped create a musical tradition that has continued for centuries. Franz Joseph Haydn started out in Vienna as a choir boy at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and gained a reputation as the Father of the Vienna Classic period. As one of Haydn’s greatest admirers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, moved to Vienna, where he spent the remainder of his life. A native of Vienna, Schubert and his friends celebrated musical evenings together. Now known as, “Schubertiaden,” the tradition has been revived throughout the world.
