About Event:

The Best Job in the World

How Evolving Along With Your Clients
Changes Both You and Them

Georgia Jones, LCSW

After a brief stint in 3rd grade where Georgia was (erroneously) convinced she would be a rock star when she grew up, her intense fascination with people and what makes them tick flourished. She knew she wanted to be a social worker at a young age. She also discovered at a young age that meditation could help tremendously with her anxious, worried mind. Georgia has now been a social worker and meditator for almost 20 years, and has extensive formal training in the clinical applications of mindfulness.

She is the founder of Chicago Mindful Psychotherapy, a group practice which specializes in the clinical use of mindfulness. She is also founder of Mindful Life Full, which provides mindfulness-based psychotherapy and teaches clinicians various applications of mindfulness. Most importantly, Georgia continues to be privileged to witness, walk with, and learn with her clients and from life in general.

Seminar Objectives:

"I remember the first time I felt depressed as an adult. I had learned so much from my clients by that point, I knew what it was. I took hope from their resilience, and my empathy became richer and more astute. I remember my early lessons, hard earned from a client with Borderline Personality Disorder, about how care and concern are not only not enough, but can be triggering and dangerous. I also reflect on learning about the power of self-compassion, and seeing clearly my hypocrisy in teaching this to clients when I had difficulty enacting it myself.

The practice of psychotherapy is relational in a deep, intimate, and complicated way. To practice it well, we must have humility and vulnerability. Engaging with our clients from this place can result in our own exponential growth and evolution."

In this workshop, we will:

  • Explore several intentional, learnable skills and attitudes that enable your own growth, both personally and within the therapeutic relationship.
  • Explore the impact of these attitudes on the client and the process.
  • Examine some possible pitfalls when learning from clients.
