Lawrence Opera Theatre, Inc.

Lawrence Opera Theatre ("LOT") is a dynamic cultural organization founded in 2009 by tenor Hugo Vera and Holly White. Rooted in Lawrence, Kansas, LOT's mission is to fill the void of opera during the summer season in Lawrence, Topeka, and the KC metro region. Guided by the belief in the transformative power of music, words, and great art, LOT provides a broad spectrum of music, drama, and cultural services to Lawrence, Douglas County, and the entire state of Kansas.

LOT's history reflects remarkable growth and innovation. What began with a program of opera scenes recorded and sent to Lawrence's sister city Eutin, Germany, has evolved into a flourishing program offering fully staged productions, concerts, and a musical theatre cabaret. Under the artistic direction of Hugo Vera, LOT has gained recognition for thematic and innovative programming, celebrating the works of opera masters (both well known and up-and-coming) and exploring contemporary adaptations.

Dedicated to community engagement, LOT actively builds partnerships and collaborates with various venues, bringing high-quality performances to Lawrence and beyond. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, LOT is committed to making opera accessible to diverse audiences, welcoming participants from across the nation. including professionals, emerging vocal artists, and community singers.
